“Sprouts is devoted to the organic principle that the theatrical repertoire grows when new scripts are fed and watered. Already, the festival, the only one of its kind in the country, has a roster of contagious successes…”
Liz Nicholls, The Edmonton Journal |
Sprouts returns for its 7th year with a crop of four brand new short plays for kids and their families. Once again, experienced and emerging playwrights from diverse cultural backgrounds will share their newest works with us through live staged readings by some of Edmonton’s finest professional actors. Bring a picnic lunch and join us in the Library Theatre and Lobby early to enjoy an afternoon of storytelling, music, art and theatre – all for kids.
After the plays, you can write or draw your thoughts in our special Art Garden Plot or speak to the playwrights themselves and tell them what you loved and what you’d like to see more of.
New this year, and inspired by Dave Clarke’s play, Sprouts will feature sign language interpretation at all four plays on both days, in order to make our festival accessible to as many children as possible.
Sprouts is proudly produced in partnership with CBC and the Edmonton Journal, and with support from Young Alberta Books. Click here to read the Media Release.
